🎙️ Podcast Episode Script: My Life”
Hey friend, welcome back to Running to Myself. I’m Trisha Stanton, and today I want to talk about a sneaky thought that I think a lot of us wrestle with. It goes like this: “I’m so behind in my life.”
Have you ever had that feeling? That gnawing sense that everyone else is moving forward while you’re stuck somewhere in the middle—or worse, falling behind? That feeling can creep into your mind quietly, but it hits your body hard.
Let me share a little story…
________________
I hate being late. I really do. And when I know I’m behind schedule—maybe for an appointment or a meeting—I feel it immediately. My heart rate speeds up. My stomach starts to feel unsettled. My mind races between thoughts like, “I need to hurry!” and “I’m never going to make it!”
And then my thinking completely derails. I start trying to calculate how I can make up the lost time. And inevitably, my thoughts follow a familiar spiral: “You can’t. You’re going to be late. You should have done x, y, z differently.”
None of this is helpful. In fact, it does the opposite. It steals my calm, hijacks my focus, and triggers that fight, flight, or freeze response we all know too well.
Now here’s the kicker—I’ve realized the same thing happens when we think we’re behind in life.
________________
I hear it all the time: “I’m so behind,” “I missed my opportunity,” or “It’s too late for me.”
Each of these thoughts is a way of quitting before you even start. Each is a painful exit ramp out of action, disguised as “reality.”
And when we believe these things, we behave differently.
Some of us start moving recklessly—doing everything at once, hoping to catch up. Some of us stop altogether, letting the thought justify giving up. Neither approach actually helps.

But what if it’s not too late?
What if you aren’t behind?
What if you haven’t missed your opportunity?
I want you to just imagine that for a moment. Imagine believing that you are exactly where you need to be—right now. That the path you’re on, with all its twists and turns, is leading you to your best self.
Take a deep breath. Just sit with that idea for a moment. How does it feel?
For me, it instantly feels lighter. More hopeful. More possible.

Now, here’s the critical question: How do you behave when you feel lighter and more hopeful?
Think about it. When you’re anxious or panicked, your actions are reactionary. You might push too hard, make mistakes, or shut down completely. But when you feel calm, hopeful, and capable, you act differently.
You take steps that actually move you forward—thoughtful, intentional steps. You don’t waste energy on panic or guilt.
That’s the power of your thoughts.
________________
Most people don’t realize this, but how we feel drives what we do. Our thoughts—especially the ones running on autopilot in our subconscious mind—create sensations in our bodies. That sensation is literally what we call a “feeling.”
And that feeling? It’s the engine behind our actions.
If you want new results, you need new actions. If you want new actions, you need new feelings. And to create new feelings, you need new thoughts.
It all comes back to what we choose to believe.

So, if you’re sitting there thinking, “I’m behind,” try this:
1. Pause. Notice the thought and the feeling it brings into your body.
2. Ask yourself: “What if I’m not behind?” or “What if I’m exactly where I need to be?”
3. Let yourself feel the possibility. Even just a little. Let yourself feel: Lighter. More hopeful. More capable.
4. Ask: “Given this new feeling, what action can I take?” And then take it—without forcing it, without rushing it, but with clarity and intention.
It’s a simple, powerful shift—and it changes everything.
________________
Today, I want to leave you with this: You’re not behind. You’re not out of time. You haven’t missed your opportunity.
You are right where you’re supposed to be. And with the right thoughts guiding your feelings, the right actions will follow.
Take a deep breath. Step forward. And know that the life you’re building is exactly the life you’re meant to have.
Thanks for joining me today on Running to Myself. If this episode resonated with you, I’d love for you to share it with a friend who might need to hear the same reminder. And remember: thoughts are sneaky, but you hold the power when it comes to shifting them.
